Review of border fees, charges and taxes announced
Minister Morrison has announced a review of border related fees, charges and taxes, to be known as the Fees Review.
The Fees Review will be lead by the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and DIBP.
The Fees Review will examine charges at the border including Import Processing and Passenger Movement Charges, charges levied by Agriculture and the Visa Application Charges administered by DIBP. The review will not consider revenue items such as Duties or GST.
The Fees Review will attempt to find the correct balance to ensure continued Australian international competitiveness, relieve the administrative burden on industry and ensure the costs of maintaining the Australian border are appropriately shared by those using it.
The MIA will seek Members input when the details of the Review are announced.
