General Skilled Migration visas

You must have work experience in an occupation on the relevant list of occupations to be able to apply for any of the GSM visas.  You will also need a Skills Assessment from the an assessing authority.  Before you can make any GSM visa application, you must receive an Invitation to Apply from the Department of Immigration.

These visas are also “points tested”, with points awarded for age, English ability, work experience etc.  The current point score required is 65.

Working Holiday Visa (417) and Work and Holiday Visa (462)

These “backpacker” visas can allow you to come to Australia for 12 months for work and holiday.  You can work in any job for up to 6 months.  They are an ideal way to get a taste for Australian life or a foot in the door!  Only people from certain countries are eligible for these visas.  Contact us to book your appointment!

482 Temporary Skill Shortage Visa

This temporary work visa allows you to work for your sponsoring employer for up to 2 or 4 years, depending on your occupation.  While this is a very flexible visa, you must have an employer who is willing to sponsor you and you can only working for that sponsoring employer (though you can change sponsors).

You must also be employed in an occupation on the list of skilled occupations.

Employer Nomination Scheme

This permanent visa requires an employer to sponsor you for permanent residence.  Generally speaking, most employers won’t sponsor you unless you have worked for the company overseas or if you have worked for the company on a something like a 482 work visa.
